What we do with your email address

Afterlight is a one-person business in Christchurch. The only personal information this site collects is an email address, and only if you type one into the form yourself.

What we collect

Your email address, and the date and time you submitted it. Our form provider also records basic technical information with each submission, such as the IP address it came from, which is used to block spam.

We don’t ask for your name, address, phone number or anything about your children.

Why we collect it

To email you when Spylight goes on sale, and to give list members first pick of the first production run. That’s the whole purpose. We won’t use your address for anything else without asking you first.

Who holds it, and where

Afterlight holds it in New Zealand. The signup form and our mailing list are run by EmailOctopus, a UK company, so your address is also stored on their systems outside New Zealand. That means it leaves the country, and we think you should know that rather than have to guess it. This website itself is hosted by Netlify in the United States, but the form no longer sends anything there.

Who we share it with

Nobody. We don’t sell, rent, trade or pass on email addresses. The only exception would be if we were legally required to hand something over.

How long we keep it

Until you ask us to remove it, or until it’s clear the list has served its purpose and we delete it. Every email we send will have a way to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.

Seeing, correcting or deleting what we hold

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Email info@afterlight.co.nz and we’ll sort it out. There’s no form to fill in and no charge.

Cookies and tracking

We use the Meta pixel, a small piece of code from Meta (Facebook and Instagram). It sets cookies and tells Meta which pages of this site you visited and whether you joined the email list. We use it for one thing: so that when Spylight goes on sale we can show an advert to people who have already looked at the site. If you have a Facebook or Instagram account, Meta may match your visit to it. Meta handles that information under their privacy policy, and you can control what they do with it in your Meta account settings under Ad preferences.

The signup form uses Google reCAPTCHA to stop automated spam, which sets a cookie and shares some technical information about your visit with Google under their privacy policy and terms.

Nothing else is stored in your browser. We run no other analytics. If that changes, this page will be updated before it does.

Children

Spylight is a game for children, but this website is written for the adults buying it. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted an email address, tell us and we’ll delete it.

If you’re not happy

Contact us first at info@afterlight.co.nz — most things are a misunderstanding and quickly fixed. If we can’t resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
